Writer's Block: Friend in need, friend indeed

Are there any must-have traits, such as intelligence, humor, and integrity, that you look for in potential friends? Have you ever made exceptions? How did it work out?

When i meet people, I decide to be their friend mainly on the aura I get off them. If I don't think i'll be comfortable with them, I won't even bother. I also don't like becoming friends with someone if it will be awkward if we don't remain friends (either because I like them more than they like me, or they like me more than I like them), after some bad experiences of this in the past. I also also find it incredibly difficult behaving in a friendly manner towards anyone I don't like. If you don't believe this, then it means I like you.

The one time I resisted my initial impression was when Clauds kept on trying to get me to have coffee and go out with her. I didn't want to be friends with someone who lived on the same street, in case we didn't get on, and it would be really awkward walking past her house. however, Clauds is nothing if not persistent, and I'm so glad she is, because I can't imagine what I would have done without her.
